Airbnb Cleaning: Training Guide
Airbnb cleaning is a service where you get a property ready for the next guest. It is a cleaning job for places like Airbnbs and guest houses. It is not the same as an indoor cleaning job. The standard is higher and the hours are shorter. A new guest arrives after you leave, so the property must look like nobody has stayed there.
๐ What an Airbnb cleaning booking is
The customer rents out the property to guests. One guest leaves, and another arrives soon after. You clean the property in between.
Every room must look fresh and ready to use. Nothing from the last guest may be left behind. A guest arriving to find a used towel or old food in the fridge is a problem for the customer.
Most Airbnb bookings are between 3 and 6 hours. Airbnb bookings pay more per hour than indoor bookings. You see the pay on the booking before you accept it.
Example: Nomsa takes an Airbnb booking for 4 hours. The last guest left that morning. A new guest arrives that evening. Nomsa cleans, changes the linen, and resets the kitchen. The property is ready before the new guest arrives.
๐ Who can apply for Airbnb cleaning
You can apply if you have all three of these:
- You have finished your probation. That means you have done 400 hours of indoor work.
- A Trust Score of 80 points or higher.
- A star rating of 4.7 stars or higher.
You need all three, not just one.
You can see your Trust Score and your star rating in your app.
Example: Thabo has done 400 hours of indoor work. His Trust Score is 84 points. His star rating is 4.8 stars. He meets all three. He can apply.
Example: Zanele has done 450 hours of indoor work. Her star rating is 4.9 stars. Her Trust Score is 76 points. That is under 80 points, so she cannot apply yet. She does her next bookings on time, with no problems. Her Trust Score goes above 80 points. Now she can apply.
You do not need hotel or guest house experience. Some Sweepstars think you must have worked in hospitality. That is not true. It helps if you have cleaned a guest house before, but it is not something you need.
๐ฒ How to apply
- Open your Worker App.
- Go to New Service Applications.
- Tap Apply for Airbnb.
โ How do I know a booking is an Airbnb booking?
The booking shows the name Airbnb Cleaning.
The booking also shows you:
- The start time
- How long the job is booked for
- Any extra tasks the customer asked for
Read the Booking Instructions under Work Details before you accept. The instructions tell you what the customer wants done with the linen.
Accept or decline the booking before the deadline shown on the screen. A booking you do not answer by the cutoff goes to another Sweepstar.
๐งบ Start with the laundry
Check the Booking Instructions under Work Details as soon as you arrive.
If the job includes washing, strip the beds and start the washing machine first. Do this before you clean anything else. The washing then has time to finish while you work.
Example: Nomsa arrives at 9am. The Booking Instructions say she must wash and hang the linen. She strips the beds first. She puts the washing on before she starts the bathrooms. By the time she finishes cleaning, the washing is done and hung.
The customer chooses what happens with the linen
There are four choices. Do the one the customer picked.
- Replace linen but do not wash. Strip the bed. Make it with clean linen. Leave the dirty linen. Do not wash it.
- Wash linens and leave to hang dry. Wash the bedding, the mats and the towels. Hang them up. You do not wait for them to dry. You do not pack them away.
- Wash, dry & repack linen onsite. Wash the linen, dry it, and pack it away before your time is finished. Start the washing machine as soon as you arrive.
- Do not replace bedding. Clean the room as normal. Leave the bedding on the bed as it is.
Example: Lindiwe sees Wash linens and leave to hang dry in the Booking Instructions. She washes the linen and hangs it on the line. She leaves it hanging when her time is finished. She has done the job correctly.
๐งฝ How to clean the property
Bedrooms
- Strip the beds and take out the used linen.
- Make the beds with fresh, clean linen.
- Dust the surfaces and the furniture.
- Vacuum/sweep and then mop the floors.
- Look everywhere for things the guest left behind. Look under the bed and inside the cupboards. If something is left behind, take a picture and send it to the client.
- Take out all the rubbish.
Bathrooms
- Clean and disinfect the shower, the bath and the basin.
- Clean the toilet well.
- Wipe the mirrors and the counters.
- Put out fresh towels (if the customer instructed)
- Put out new toilet paper (if the customer instructed)
Kitchen
- Wash all the dishes, or pack and run the dishwasher.
- Wipe the counters, the sinks and the appliances.
- Clean the inside of the microwave.
- Empty the bins.
- Sweep/vacuum and then mop the floor.
Food the guest left behind
Ask the customer what to do with any food the guest has left. Ask before you wipe out the fridge.
Do not throw food away until the customer tells you to. Some customers want it kept. Some want it thrown away. You cannot tell by looking.
Example: Sipho opens the fridge and finds milk and half a loaf of bread. He asks the customer what to do with it. The customer tells him to throw it away. He throws it away and wipes the fridge out.
๐งด Supplies and equipment
The customer must supply all cleaning products and equipment you need. You do not bring your own. Always ask the customer where something is if you cannot find it.
You never buy or bring supplies yourself. You only put out things the owner has already left at the property.
You do not have to count the utensils, the mugs or the glasses. Checking whether something is missing is not your job.
๐ธ Showing the customer the work is done
The customer is often not at the property while you clean.
When you finish, you can send photos of the rooms you have cleaned. It shows the customer the property is ready for the next guest.
This is not something you have to do. It is a good habit, and customers like it. This also allows you to send pictures to the customer of anything the guests have left behind. Always ask the customer where to put these items.

- If there is washing, start it first, before you clean.
