Office Cleaning: Training Guide
Office Cleaning is a service where you clean a business office instead of a home. The work is like an Indoor booking, but the space is different. There are usually people working in the office while you clean.
Read this guide before you write the Office Cleaning test. It covers what you need to know to pass.
๐ข What Office Cleaning is
Businesses book Office Cleaning on SweepSouth. You go to their office and clean it.
The service is the same high standard as Indoor cleaning. The space is the difference. An office has desks, meeting rooms and shared bathrooms instead of bedrooms.
Customers who book Office Cleaning want a Sweepstar who is professional, well presented and reliable.
๐ Who can apply for Office Cleaning
You need all of these:
- 400 hours of indoor work. This means your probation is complete
- A Trust Score of 80 points or higher
- A star rating of 4.7 stars or higher
You can see your Trust Score and your star rating in your app.
Example: Nomsa has a Trust Score of 84 points. Her star rating is 4.6 stars. She cannot take Office Cleaning bookings yet. Her Trust Score is high enough, but her star rating is not 4.7 stars yet.
Your Trust Score and your star rating both go up over time when your bookings go well.
๐โโ๏ธ How do I apply for Office Cleaning?
- Open your Worker App.
- Go to My Support Tickets
- Tap 'Create a ticket'
- Choose "Apply for a new service"
- Tap Apply for Office Cleaning
You can also apply here: https://sweepsouth.com/worker/v2/help/new_request/apply_new_office_skill
๐ What happens after I apply?
When you apply, we add you as a candidate.
Sweepsouth checks all candidates on the 15th of every month. This is what we check:
- Your hours, your Trust Score and your star rating
- If you pass that, you write the Office Cleaning test
- We phone your references to check your cleaning experience
You get an SMS after the checks. The SMS tells you if you are successful or unsuccessful.
Example: Lindiwe applies on 3 March. She waits until 15 March for her checks. Thabo applies on 20 March. He waits until 15 April for his checks.
If you are unsuccessful, you stay on the candidate list. We check you again on the 15th of the next month. You do not have to apply again.
Example: Precious has a star rating of 4.5 stars on 15 April. She is unsuccessful that month. She stays on the list. She does good work and her rating goes up to 4.8 stars. On 15 May we check her again, and she writes the test.
โ How do I know a booking is an Office Cleaning booking?
Every booking has a blue label that shows the type of service.
- The label says Office Cleaning for an office job
- The label says Indoor for a home cleaning job
- The label says Outdoor for an outdoor job
You see this label on the New Jobs screen. Office Cleaning bookings also show on the Earn more tab, with the same blue Office Cleaning label.
The booking also shows you:
- The location
- The date and time
- The hours of work
- Any extra tasks the customer asked for
โจ How does an Office Cleaning booking work?
An Office Cleaning booking works the same way as an Indoor booking. You clean an office instead of a home.
There are no bedrooms in an office. There is no laundry and no ironing. Some offices ask you to wash the towels.
The customer must supply all cleaning supplies and equipment you need. This is the same as an Indoor booking.
๐งน What must I clean?
This is your Office Cleaning checklist. Every Office Cleaning booking should include these things.
Offices are different sizes. A small office may not have a kitchen. Clean the areas that the office has.
Office areas and common areas
- Dust the furniture, the desks and the surfaces
- Vacuum and mop the floors
- Clean the meeting rooms and the breakout spaces
- Empty the rubbish bins
Bathrooms
- Clean the sinks and the taps
- Clean the toilets
- Wipe the walls and the mirrors
- Clean the outside of the cabinets and cupboards
- Fold and hang the clean towels and the paper towel
- Empty and clean the bins
- Mop the floors
Kitchen, kitchenette or lunch room
- Wash the dishes. Or load and unload the dishwasher, and put the clean dishes away
- Dust and wipe all the surfaces you can reach
- Wipe the outside of the cupboards and cabinets, the surfaces and the tables
- Wipe and clean the kitchen appliances: the fridge, the microwave, the kettle
- Clean the sinks and the taps
- Take out the rubbish and the recycling
- Vacuum and mop the floors
๐คซ Cleaning while people are working
An office has many more people in it than a home. Most of them are working while you clean.
Office workers understand that the office needs cleaning. You are not disturbing them by being there.
- Try to disrupt their work as little as possible
- Do not vacuum in an area where people are on phone calls. Clean somewhere else, and come back later
- Move quietly through meeting rooms that are in use, or clean them after the meeting
Example: Precious starts a booking at 9am. Three people in the open-plan area are on calls. She cleans the bathrooms and the kitchen first. At 11am the calls are finished. She vacuums the open-plan area then.
๐ Busy areas need more attention
Many people share the same spaces in an office. These areas get dirty much faster than in a home.
- Pay extra attention to the kitchen, the break room and the hallways
- Clean the bathrooms well. Many people use an office bathroom every day
- Check the toilet paper, the soap, the hand sanitiser and the paper towel. Refill them if the office gives you more
๐ป Desks, computers and phones
Be gentle with anything electronic.
- Dust computers, screens and phones softly
- Do not use normal cleaning spray on a computer screen. It can damage the screen
- Only use an electronics cleaner if the office gives you one
Desks have personal things on them. Every office is different about this.
Example: Zanele is cleaning an office for the first time. There are papers and a coffee cup on a desk. She asks the customer if she should move things to wipe underneath. The customer says yes, but put everything back the same way. Zanele does that at every desk.
๐ Dress for the job
Wear a clean, smart outfit. An office is a professional place and customers notice how you look.
Always dress appropriately and respectfully.
๐ฌ Always talk to the customer
Ask the customer whenever you are not sure about something. Nobody expects you to guess. When you arrive, find the Office Manager, or someone to show you around and let you know what needs to be done.
Ask on your first booking at a new office:
- Which areas you should clean
- Whether to move personal things on desks
- Where the cleaning supplies are kept
Some office floors are old and stained. You can mop them well and they still look marked. This is not your fault and it is not a bad clean.
Example: Sipho cleans an office with old white tiles. The tiles are scuffed and stained. He mops them properly every visit. The marks stay. He tells the customer that the marks are in the tile itself.
