From November 2021 to May 2022 we will be rolling out price increases across all bookings via the means of several phases.
The last time we implemented a price increase was three years ago (only the second increase since our founding seven years ago), following insights from the fourth annual SweepSouth Report on Pay and Working Conditions for Domestic Workers Across Africa (https://bit.ly/3nlnrpt) we're committed to improving the lives of SweepStars and as a result needed to ensure that earnings for SweepStars was reconsidered in-line with the current economy and ongoing increases in the cost of living.
As a result of this change, excluding any tips, SweepStars earn on average R35.30/hour on the platform, this is 63% higher than the minimum wage in South Africa. This amount will change depending on the length & day of the booking, but this is the current average. SweepStars rely on bookings to make a fair wage and we've needed to take a very close look at how SweepStars are earning across the bookings they are receiving. We have made significant price changes, especially to our on-demand/one-time and lower hour booking pricing to ensure that a SweepStar is able to cover their costs while still earning fair pay.
When creating a booking, you will be presented with the price, upfront before you (contractually) agree to or confirm the booking. Note that this pricing only affects newly created bookings - any previously created booking’s prices remain unchanged for the moment. In the event that previously agreed to pricing is changed, as per our terms - we may at any time change the prices. We will give you notice by email at least one month before any price change takes effect.
As a platform created to ensure dignified work at dignified pay, we are incredibly committed to ensuring SweepStars are earning fairly and that their well-being is at the core of our mission.
